MEDIA RELEASE – Jump on board NSW’s construction boom

The construction industry employs almost 1 million Australians, or 8.6 per cent of all workers, which is the third largest workforce behind only the retail trade and health care industries.*

Barangaroo South is a $6B urban regeneration project, located on the western edge of Sydney’s central business district.

The Barangaroo Skills Exchange (BSX) was established in 2012 to centrally coordinate, deliver and report on all aspects of skilling, training and research during the construction phase of the Barangaroo Project. The key partners of the BSX are Lend Lease, TAFE NSW and the Construction and Property Services Industry Skills Council (CPSISC), supported by the Barangaroo Delivery Authority and the Department of Industry. TAFE NSW Western Sydney Institute (WSI) has been appointed as the “lead Institute” to coordinate training activity at Barangaroo South.

“The Barangaroo Skills Exchange will leave a learning legacy way beyond its boundaries and will become an example of how great partnerships between government, industry and the training sector can effectively deliver sustainable learning and skilling programs,” Andrew Wilson Managing Director, Barangaroo South, Lend Lease.

The Construction and Property Services Careers Hub will assist career seekers wanting to get a start in the industry and workers keen to advance or expand their skills, with information and guidance on current job opportunities, educational options for career transition and training and up-skilling initiatives.

The Construction and Property Services Industry Skills Council (CPSISC), Lend Lease, Barangaroo Skills Exchange, E-Oz Energy Skills Australia,  Affirm Training, ACES Security,  Industry Women Central, Real Estate Institute of New South Wales (REINSW), Supporting And Linking Tradeswomen (SALT) and Western Sydney Institute, will come together to form the hub.

“People attending the expo will be able to get first-hand information on how they can take advantage and position themselves for current and future career opportunities. The hub will become part of the largest and only intentional adult careers and employment event in Sydney this year, showcasing over 500 careers, ranging from plasterers to security through to property valuers,” said Nicholas Ricciuti, CEO of Reinvent Your Career.

CPSISC CEO Alan Ross said that “attendees will get to experience the innovative Construction and Property Services Careers Hub and meet key industry people who will assist with understanding the careers roadmap and accessing employers to help reposition their career.”

The Sydney Reinvent Your Career Expo will be held on the 30th and 31st of August 2014 at Hall 3 of the Sydney Showground in Sydney Olympic Park, from 10am to 4pm each day. For more information please visit
