MEDIA RELEASE: Career Conversations Important for All Individuals

Current economic conditions and a changing labour market mean every individual can benefit from seeing a career development professional to manage their working life, the Career Development Association of Australia’s National Manager Greg Parker said.

With around 20 CDAA professionals attending the Reinvent Your Career Expo in Brisbane on the 22nd and 23rd of March, 2014, to provide short career and resume ‘check-ups’, expo visitors could expect a high-quality taster of how seeing a suitably qualified career development practitioner could assist them in finding the right way forward for their career, Mr Parker said.

“All of the CDAA practitioners volunteering at the expo are suitably qualified and very experienced in providing the best possible advice to expo goers,” Mr Parker said.

“They will be able to provide visitors with a short initial consultation, where they can either get their resume reviewed, discuss a specific issue related to their career or work, or have a general ‘check-up’ of their career health.

“These days, it is important for all individuals to continually work on their professional development, no matter if they’re just starting out, facing a major transition in their career or even approaching retirement.

“However, it’s important for expo goers to realise that the appointment with their CDAA volunteer is only a ‘taster’. A thorough initial career consultation would usually be around one to one and a half hours long, and discuss several issues, and this is just not possible in the short time you will have with the counsellor.

“If you seek – and you should – a comprehensive assessment of your career needs, it would likely be beneficial to make a follow-up appointment with the counsellor who saw you on the day, or another practitioner who specialises in the kind of services you are looking for.

“The ‘Find A Career Practitioner’ tool on the CDAA website can help you find a professional that meets your needs and who you are comfortable with – just visit our homepage on and click on the ‘Need Career Services’ tab.

“Finding the right practitioner to work with and support you will give you the confidence and tools on how to move forward with your career and your life – and probably an edge on your competition!”

The Brisbane Reinvent Your Career Expo will be held on the 22nd and 23rd of March at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre from 10am to 4pm. Tickets are available online or at the door for $10 for a day pass or $15 for a two day pass, those under 18 are free.
