Antarctic jobs up for grabs

Australia’s Antarctic bases are embarking on a recruitment drive.

The Australian Antarctic Division has extended its hiring period for the 2013-14 season after applications plummeted from around two-thousand to just 12-hundred this year because of the mining boom.

The AAD is looking for everything from plumbers to chefs to communications experts.

While there are more than enough applicants to fill the 135 vacancies on offer, applicants are screened thoroughly to ensure they are up to a life in isolation.
